April 10, 1912, and the World's most luxurious passenger liner, the RMS Titanic set sail from Southampton on her maiden voyage to New York. At 11:40pm on April 14, 1912, she struck an iceberg some 400 miles from Newfoundland, Canada.   Less than three hours later, the Titanic sank to the seabed, taking with her more than 1500 passengers, whilst only a fraction survived.
