<Description on box>
Albert Bierstadt studied art in Dusseldorf before returning to America and becoming associated with the Hudsun River School of painters. On serveral journeys into the expanding American West, Bierstadt combined to stunning effect the landscape skills he'd honed in Germany with the detail and luminism he perfected during his New York years. Hw succeeded like no other painter of the time at conveying the vast and majestic landscapes of the West, faithfully reproducing th awe of the original vistas.
Bierastadt's Valley of the Yosemite, painted a year after his 1863 visit, is a testament to both the grandeur of nature and the skill of the artist.
